Friends of the Library Book Sale

February 4: Annual Black History Month Sale with 50% off books in History & Politics as well as books by and about African-Americans. There will be many children's biographies of historic figures like Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, Harriet Tubman and more. Calendars of Black History Month Events in the area will be available free of charge.

February 18: Annual Presidents Day Sale with 50% off books in Biography and a large display of presidential biographies for adults and children.

Also in 2012 the book sale is lowering the price of all VHS and DVD movies to 50 cents.

Governor Mitch Daniels of Indiana will be promoting his new book, "Keeping the Republic: Saving America by Trusting Americans." After discussing his book, Governor Daniels will open the floor to questions from the general public. There will not be any copies of this book available for sale due to time constraints; however, Daniels will sign copies previously purchased as time permits.

Nachand Fieldhouse, 601 E. Court Ave., Jeffersonville.

This event is free and open to kids ages 8-13.

Girls and boys divisions in six age groups. Contests for shooting, dribbling, passing.

Trophies will be awarded to top three finishers in each age group and division. Finalists will compete in district final on March 3rd at Holy Family School in New Albany.

Taylor High School: A History

Jeffersonville Township Public Library

Jeffersonville native Flora Clipper will give a presentation on the history of Taylor High School, 821 Wall Street in Jeffersonville, Indiana. Taylor High School operated as a segregated school from 1981 - 1952 and holds special memories for many of our citizens who attended the school. Clipper is a 1940 graduate of Taylor High School. An exhibit featuring artifacts from Taylor High School will also be on display during Black History Month.

Ric Manning, family historian, will present “Searching For Rosario--Turning A European Vacation Into A Genealogical Expedition” at the March 1 meeting of the Southern Indiana Genealogical Society. Mr. Manning will explain how his search to learn more about a mysterious great-grandfather led him to a seventeenth century village in the mountains of Sicily. Mr. Manning writes the popular “Gizmo” column and reviews books about the Civil War for the Courier-Journal. Meeting time is 7 PM in the Strassweg Auditorium of the New Albany-Floyd County Library, 180 W. Spring St., New Albany, Indiana.
